In recent years there has been a significant rise in people’s concern for the environment. We all affect the natural environment, but we are often are unaware of how much we affect it. No part of the earth does not remain affected by our actions. Our actions are now threatening the health of our planet, the land we live and work on, the water supply, the ozone layer, the animal species as well as the health of our species. With this it is easy to say “The problem is too great and what can we do now?” Well, we can first remember and believe that we can make a difference. We can start by committing to do a few things to save our environment.

We can work with our community and raise awareness about the environment. We can look into the environmental issues in our neighborhood. We can call our local government offices and ask if it has an environmental committee and if there is one we can join the committee and help with issues that are of concern to the local area. We can organize a clean-up at a local park or street, hold a garage sale, or better yet hold a street sale and sell unwanted items, this is a form of recycling. We can also consider developing a proposal for funding an environmental program or cause. The future of our world is unknown but with steady development, we can try to guarantee a better quality of life for every living thing by becoming an informed citizen is a key piece in saving our environment possible.

In our home, it is a great place to take action for the environment because we can control what happens and how things are done. At home, we can reduce the amount of waste that is produced by our household. As consumers, we can influence manufacturers to produce and sell products that are less harmful to the environment. There are many things that we can do. We can be careful in our purchases, including buying only what we need, buying durable long-lasting products, and buying products with no or with less packaging. We can repair items that no longer work rather than throwing them away or buying items. We can even reuse much as possible including paper, jars, and cans, cardboard boxes, paper, and plastic bags, paper clips, and even string. We can even donate some of these things to a local school. We can even recycle unwanted items that can not be fixed or reused like clothing, appliances, books, magazines, and many other items that can be passed on to others that can use them. Also, did you know that in 2000 the residents of Ottawa recycled over 34,000 tons of newspaper, 7,500 tons of glass, 6,500 tons of cardboard, 3,500 tons of boxboard (cereal, tissue, and shoeboxes), 2,000 tons of steel, 574 tons of aluminum and almost 2,000 tons of plastic? Just by this community coming together they recycled for a good cause. We can do this in our community too.

In the winter, a lot of heat is lost through the windows and doors of our home. We can make sure that all external walls, the basement, the attic, and any crawl spaces are well insulated so we would not have to use the air conditioner or heater. Our windows and doors should fit well and be sealed against drafts. We can even consider installing solar panels for heating and hot water. To cool our house we can plant shade trees around the house or put reflector covers on the windows. If we do not know what we are exactly using we can call our local Pacific, Gas, and Electric Company or hire a consultant to conduct an energy use audit for your home, and then we can implement the recommendations.

For many of us owning a car is almost a necessity, but it is also important to think about what we doing or how we use it. The car is one of the major sources of pollutants in the environment. They release carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and other pollutants that cause smog and give a rise to destroying the ozone layer and cause climate changes. We have alternatives to using our car. We can take the bus or public transit instead of our car as often as possible. It saves fossil fuels and is often less stressful. We can use a car or vanpool instead of driving to and from work on our own. Some towns and cities have carpool parking lots close to the public transit routes or specially designated lanes on the highway for people who carpool. We could even walk, bike or skate to work and do errands. We can even consider buying a smaller car that will meet our needs and choose a model that is fuel-efficient and has good gas mileage. We could even think to consider purchasing a hybrid (gas and electric engine) car.

These are just a few ideas that we can do together to save our environment. There is so much information on the web that we could find that would be helpful or even at our local library. But, by educating ourselves we can educate our family and friends in joining us in saving our environment. We just need to remember and believe that we can make a difference. We can start by committing to do a few things to save our environment. If we are armed with increased knowledge, awareness, and the understanding of the major issues involved in our environment and the impact that we can make to save the environment we will be prepared to take action. Whether the action we take is in the form of personal responsibility or making changes in our daily life. It is not too late. Our environments’ health, the animals of the worlds’ health, and our health depends on what we do today, tomorrow, and long into the future.

    Essay-Global Warming

We all know about Global Warming, right? Though we do not realise it, sometimes we all contribute Global Warming. We use petrol cars, too much paper, and harm the environment.

Firstly, we damage the environment by contaminating it with CO2, commonly known as carbon dioxide. Globally, 32 billion metric tons of CO2 are released into the atmosphere daily. We emit CO2 by burning hydrocarbon fuels, such as petrol, gasoline, and wood. This means that going on a car, an aeroplane or using any other vehicle than an electric or human-powered on is harmful for the environment. You could prevent the CO2 from being released in to the atmosphere by cycling or using electric vehicles.

A major cause of CO2 lingering in the air is deforestation. A tree can convert as much 21.7kg of oxygen a year. The earth has about 3 trillion (3,000,000,000,000) trees, so a lot of oxygen can be converted. Despite this, an area of about a football pitch of trees is cut down a second, and in a year 357 billion trees are cut down yearly.

Due to the fact that deforestation is making an impact, many tree dwelling and non-tree dwelling animals are affected. Species such as the Sumatran tiger and the orang-utan are on the brink of extinction, and some species have already gone extinct in the past two decades, such as the Formosan Clouded leopard, and the Spix’s Macaw.

Due to all the facts, on how the earth is affected, I hope I have persuaded you to play your part in stopping climate change.

I think we should start to care and worry about global warming because it is going to change the future of how human beings are going to live. Here are some simple things we could do: Recycling, turn of the lights when not needed, cycling/walking to school (Unless you live far away), not wasting paper, etc. If everyone in the world does that exact thing then the life of you and others with become happier and brighter for are next centuries.

We also need to stop global warming, a massive subject when we think of the word pollution. Here is a abbreviated version of a scientific explanation. The methane or thing that cows burp out and our escape air gas going into our world’s greenhouse gases which will make the glaciers melt, which means 68.7 of our fresh water supply are going to intermingle with the salt water making it undrinkable. Then the Gulf stream would be ruined and so Europe would get no warm air making it a mini ice age and the other fresh waters are in the arctic but are invested with some kind of bacteria making it poisonous and even worse is some cities like New York,San Francisco, Shanghai, etc terrible isn’t it?

Well luckily we still have plenty of time to change that from happening, just think about it, a million nightmares it will take to cover that hole won’t it? Now that we are getting a bit more serious lets just look at a different life changing subject, Deforestation.

Big, grand and terrible, this is a very, very serious topic of pollution. Deforestation has a huge impact on animals and humans, the most common and simple theory is that it will make them lose their homes and food, but for humans there simply obliterating what their tribe or community was trained for and now just destroying their homes. Just imagine you sitting their in your forest doing your stuff and then going hunting, next when you come back there was nothing but people destroying your home, it goes the same to animals.

The last part of global warming (mentioned at the front), electric cars, fuel and electric cars are slightly different to what you see, one is powered by petrol and one is electric, but the type of car you use has a huge impact on the environment. Petrol cars are powered by oil and overpowered energy against our environment, it is so effective that it changes nearly the whole ecosystem with what you see in everyday lives. Do you want to harm environment? There’s a simple answer to that one, if you could use electrical cars for good! Its just so simple, factories, the mastermind genius of pollution. Literally if I could I would obliterate every single unneeded item factories like fake items, jewelry, etc. All the good their doing is god damn nothing! (Except ruining the environment.

If you may please take away what I have been talking about since the environment tells us our future and decides what future earth will look like, if you could help the environment then do it!

  7. Sisley says:

Global warming is really becoming a problem right now. Humans are causing a lot more trouble on this earth than you think; at the end of the day, it’s still our fault. Global warming is driven by human emissions of greenhouse gases and the resulting shifts in weather. An example of a greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide. If this continues, we may all become non-existent. Why? Well, if global warming becomes worse, the earth would overheat and we would have two choices: 1. Leave the earth or 2. Fight to survive on the earth with a high chance of death. Do you want the people you care about to perish on this planet?

There is still time left to save this dying planet called earth. There’s actually a lot of things that you can do to help , for example: Use renewable energy, reduce water waste, eat the (majority of) food you buy, pull the plug(s), buy better bulbs and weatherise and most importantly, reduce the amount of plastic you use. Global warming is not a hoax. There must be something done about it before it’s too late.
