Poetry: When the World Turned Upside Down(Senior Writing7)

Based on the poem, ‘When the World Turned Upside Down’ by Margaret A. Savage, write a short poem, with the first line ‘When the world turned upside down…’, creating a sense of rhyme and rhythm. The aim is to create a coherent piece of writing, that hopefully rhymes beautifully!

  1. Sisley says:

When the world turned upside down

No-one knew that this would occur.
    Humans grew smarter,
    But creatures grew stronger.
Nevertheless, this was just the starter.

Nature took over the ocean bottom and land,
leaving just a portion to humans.
The system tipped like turning the back of your hand.
We decided that this wasn’t natural.

    Humans soon lost more control.
Planet earth erupted with more green nature,
leaving barely any space to live.
More weight was added onto the already leavy layers.

People abandoned the lands and flead to the sea.
The tickets of safety were high on price,
Only the rich and crucial could go.
Choosing people shall be very precise.

The rest simply strayed in the forests,
    unknown where each other thrive.
    With everything almost ripped apart,
    Maybe hope would someday arrive.

Sorry about the spacing, I couldn’t get them to split into paragraphs properly

  3. Xiaorui Hang says:

When the world turned upside down,
when the poor took the crown.
When the rich become the poor,
when the poor become the rule.

When the food chain get reversed,
when the king of animal gets traversed.
    When the gravity gets reversed,
when the bird flies low when the mice fly high.

    When the age get reversed,
When the parent you hold dear is younger than you.
    When the day ended,
When the dream and wondering began.

  4. Benjamin says:

When the World turned upside down

When the world turned upside down,
The day was normal all except,
The rich took the role of the poor,
And the poor took the role of the rich,
As I looked out of the door,
    There came a peculiar sight,
Of all animals in the world rocketing into the night!

Everything was quite normal that day,
A very sunny day in May,
    But what people forgot,
    Whether, or not,
The number of things wrong was, a lot!

What else was wrong? you may ask,
    Everyone had a huge task,
    It was a big commotion,
As people were unable to move in motion,
Like blunt hard rocks, heavy as a tonne,
    Plummeting itself into the ocean!

The final thing I want to say,
Is to not believe in this poem, go home,
Do not eat some grass and hay,
You fall asleep, in a heap,
    Waking up with a frown,
You realize the world turned upside down!

    Hello,
    This is my poem.

When the world turned upside down,
It happened in this very town.
There were some little ups and downs,
But here’s what happened all around.

Whilst humans sleep in baskets of bread,
Cats and dogs are sleeping in bed.
    Cars fly in the air,
Planes go on our old lair.

Whilst birds start to sink like a mistake,
    Humans are starting to levitate.
Fish are starting to drown, drown, drown,
This is what happened when the world turned upside down, down, down.
