Many people think that technology is good for us. But exactly, technology is destroying our childhood.
First, it lets children think less. Many questions are good enough to let you think deeply. But technology like AI can give you the correct answer, and you don’t need to think. If children think less, their brains won’t be strong. The brain goes strong by practicing, and if you are using AI, it won’t be “practice”. It will also be a trouble for the afterlife. For example, when a kid doing his/her work, there is a very difficult question. And he/she uses AI to answer the question, it is AI’s work, not he/she’s work. This will make his/her brain not practice, and he/she will not be smarter anymore.
Secondly, high technology will make it more difficult to separate real and fake works. It is very important to know whether the work is done by you or by the robots. If the technology is very good, some people will use it to do their work, and if the teachers don’t find it out, it will be their work. Also, this technology can make fake books. Even though there are rules that you can not copy other books, many people will still do it. The rule is for the authors to have more strength to write more books. But if many people copied it, the authors won’t write anymore.
This is why I think technology is destroying our childhood.

Old tree to little, young trees

Humans always think trees do not talk. Instead, we can talk, just in our way. The sound of the leaves, the sound from the whistling treetop, even the way we let animals bring our words to other trees—all of these are ways to talk. I am an old tree that has stood here for about a century. I watch the humans battle, build, and talk.

The first time I saw people killing and hurting each other was when I was a young tree. A good woman plant me in her yard. Her children always play with each other in the yard. One day, a soldier tells her that her husband died in the war.  At that time, I didn’t know what is “dead”. I know that when the enemy comes here and kills women and kids. Thankfully, they didn’t find where the woman and her children had been. After they go away, the woman and her children come from where they hide and go away. I shake my leaves to wave goodbye. They hug my trunk and go away.

I had never seen them again.

I stand there lonely until some human comes. They point at the ruin and take cars of material here. I see them building a city on the ruins. I am unhappy about this because they destroy my most precious memory. I admit the houses they built are beautiful. They also plant new trees around me. This gives my black-white life a colorful draw. The technology is growing fast. The old city became a big, brand-new city with tall buildings.

Today’s story is finished here. Young trees, you can listen to the rest of the story tomorrow!

      I do some corrections.

The sky was as dark as ink on snow-white paper. There was no sound, except for some crow’s cries. Looking in the only window that has light on, you could see Maggie and her father, Mo, staying in their home. Maggie was reading her favorite book, silently, right on the carpet beside the window. Mo was reading a book in his chair. Suddenly, when Maggie looked out of the window, she saw a shadow with fire standing outside their yard. The fire was very clear in the night. Who is it? Maggie thought. She called Mo, “Why is there a person with fire in his hand outside?”

Mo stopped for a moment, jumped out of his chair, ran to the window, and looked out. Maggie was right. There was shadow, with fire, and he was staring at Mo’s house.

Mo knew who it is in his mind. “Pack your things and get into bed!” Mo shouted to Maggie. Maggie had never seen her father like this. She quickly packed her things and stumbled  back to her room.

From her bed, she heard the front door squeak open. Maggie heard Mo calling the dangerous-looking man ‘Dustfinger’. Mo let him in and said to him directly, “I will not read anything again! Don’t you see what happened to you and my wife? You know what will happen!” About my mom? Maggie thought. She also heard Dustfinger call her father’ Silvertongue’.

Dustfinger and Mo talked about things that happened before. Maggie felt bad after  learning that her mom was not just missing. She also knows that her dad has special powers.

Why doesn’t Mo read mom back? Maggie thought with anger. In her mind, there was only one idea, which is heckling Mo. She ran out of her room, and shouted at her dad: “Why don’t you read mom back? Is it because you didn’t love her?” But Mo said firmly: “No! I know what will happen if I want to read her back. It’s too dangerous!”

The first people that have a pig heart in the world is David Bennett. He is 57 years old. He lived 2 more months after the surgery. I think it is similar that there family all love them even they have a pig heart. The different is, now the technology is more developed. But at that time, they don’t have the things to remove the germs in the pig heart. So Cameron’s surgery will be more dangerous.

I deleted some parts that we do not need.

I think Funke uses the quotations because it could be a foreshadowing.

For example, in paragraph 51, the quotation is “ ‘I don’t know what it is,’ answered Fiver wretchedly. ‘There isn’t any danger here, at this moment. But it’s com-ing-it’s coming.’(Richard Adams, Watership Down)” In my opinion, this means that there will be danger or dangerous after this chapter, and at this time, it is the calm time before the storm. So this chapter will be alright, but after this chapter, at the 52 chapter, Maggie first read a fairy out from the book. This make her more dangerous because her power was found by Basta.

In conclusion  Funke quotations in the front of the chapter can inspire the readers, also could be a prophecy.

I think Funke put the quotation because it could inspire the readers. It also could be a prophecy.

First, every quotation is related to the chapter. For example, in chapter 1, the quotation is “The moon shone in the rocking horse’s eye, and in the mouse’s eye, too. when Told fetched it out from under his pillow to see. The clock went tick-tock, and in the stillness, he thought he heard little bare feet running across the floor, then lighter and whispering, and a sound like the pages of a big book being turn over.” The same of the chapter and the quotation is, they all have time at night, have unknown people/creature trying to get in their house, and all have a little bit of horror.

Also, there is not only one example in the book. Another example is in chapter 11. The quotation is “Home! That was what they meant, those caressing appeals, those invisible little hands pulling and tugging, all one way.” The related chapter and the quotation are very easy to see. They are all at home, and they did not want to leave it.

Lastly, the quotation in front of the chapter could also be a kind of prophecy. In paragraph 51, the quotation is “ ‘I don’t know what it is,’ answered Fiver wrentchedly. ‘There isn’t any danger here, at this moment. But it’s com-ing-it’s coming.’” After this chapter, there are dangers happening to Maggie and other people. This proves that the quotation can be some kind of prophecy.

In conclusion, I prove that Funke put some quotation in the front of the chapter can inspire the readers, also could be a prophecy.

I think War Horse shows the cruel in the war. It show the life of a horse in the war. It also show that there are friendly places in the war, too.

First, I said it shows the cruel in the war because there are many place in the book that describe the war. When the first time Joey go to the war, he describe: “All around me men cried and fell to the ground, and horses reared and screamed in an agony of fear and pain.” and “ The shells whined and roared overhead, and every explosion seemed like and earthquake to us.” From this paragraph, we can see the cruel in the war by these word like “roared overhead” and “reared and screamed in an agony of fear and pain”

War horse also show the life of a horse in the WWI. We can see it from Joey and Topthorn. In the book, we can see that they need to do many work like pulling the guns. But there are more dangerous work. It is to be a war horse. This mean in any time they could dead. Even the horse did not know why they dead and what they dead for. These paragraphs tell us what do the war horse do in the war.

Lastly, I think it also show that there are friendly place in wars, too. I see it by Emily’s home. It is a warm, friendly place. She and her grandfather are friendly to animals. Emily like to play with animals and talk to us. She see the animals as people, and she make good friends with them.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that War Horse show three point about the war. It shows the cruel in the war, the life of a horse in the war, and it also shows that there are friendly place in the war.

I think it will be different if the story War Horse is told in human’s perspective.

First, it would be clearer when the story is narrate by human. It is because human know every thing about war, not like animals like Joey. Human understands why they are fighting and what they are fighting with. If the story is told by human, that person can explain about how the war start and the things they use in the war. Joey can not explain any thing of these. He are like us, does not know any things about the war.

Conversely, it does not mean that War Horse told by human is better than Joey. If the story is told by Joey, Joey will have thought same like readers. For example, readers and Joey will have some question like “why are they fighting” and “what they are fighting for”. Morpurgo use Joey to represent ordinary people in the wars. These people does not know why there are wars and why their life become so hard. If the story is told by Joey, we could feel about the war more deeply.

In conclusion, it is different when the story is told by human. If the story is told by human, the background of the war will be clearer for us. The story will be more interesting if it is told by Joey. Therefore, I think there is no correct perspective.

War horse is a good story about friendship in WW1. I think it is useful to know why Morpurgo made the choice he made within the book. It changes my thought to the story.

First, a little paragraph changes my opinion about Albert’s dad. In the book, when Albert’s dad sells Joey, he said,“You’ll be all right, old son, you’ll be all right. They’ll look after you, promise they will. And I need the money, Joey, I need the money bad.” This makes a big contrast with him before. Before, Morpurgo write him as a bad dad that like to drink wine. But this time he gave him compassion and he was guilty at Joey. This shows that he have two faces, one is serious, the other is friendly.

Also, the last paragraph changes my thought about Emily’s grandfather. In my impression, he all ways listen to Emily, and tries best to get the thing that Emily wants. Well, it is not a bad mind, because Emily has disease. But when I just think that he will let Joey go to his house and let Joey live happy after, he gives Joey back to Albert. I think he give Joey back to Albert because he knows that Joey won’t be happy in his house because there are no friends with him. Also, he checks that Albert will be good at Joey. This proves that he will also think about Joey, he will think about if Joey go back to his house, he will think about Joey is happy or not. At last, he chooses to give Joey back to Albert. This shows he is a person that will think about what other people (or animals like Joey) think, not only listen to someone he loves.

In conclusion, it changes my mind of Alberts dad and Emily’s grandfather. It shows me that Albert’s dad have two faces, also shows that Emily’s grandfather will think about others. This is why I thought it is useful to know why Morpurgo made the choice he made within the book.
