      Session 1

      Homework/Tasks for Next Session

      Questions to think about/mull over

      •What do you know?
•Do you know if your friend knows something? If not, why not?
•Should we prefer a world where everyone knows everything there is to know, or are we quite alright where we are?
•Who knows the most in the world? Who knows the least? Can we really tell?

      Summary of What Was Covered

      • Introduction to concept/notion of “Philosophy, Politics, and Economics”
      • Ideal candidate for PPE – as well as strengths of graduates from it
      • Introduction to the course “PPE”
      • A-levels/GCSE subjects – selection and combination
      • The Basics of Public Speaking and Debating 101
      • Four topics for classroom discussion/debate

      Feedback on Class

      • This was a very vibrant and vivacious class. The students are enthusiastic, excited, eager, and keen on contributing to the classroom discussion. I was particularly impressed by the level of knowledge exhibited by the students, despite their ages (!).
      • To improve, the students should look to…:
        • LISTEN more carefully to the questions being asked and instructions raised
        • ADDRESS each other’s views more fairly and comprehensively
        • ASK questions concerning what one may find confusing
        • SPEND MORE TIME linking one’s personal experiences to the theory at hand!

      Session 2

      Homework/Tasks for Next Session

      – Would you pull the lever?
      – Would you push the fat man?
      – Extended reading: https://kids.kiddle.co/Utilitarianism

      Summary of What Was Covered

      – Introduction to epistemology

      – Introduction/overview re: ways of knowing and areas of knowledge

      – Knowledge as justified true belief

      – Debates/speeches re: individuals’ knowledge, measuring knowledge, and the ethics of knowledge

      – Gettier cases

      Feedback on Class

      Pros:

      – This was a very enthusiastic and active class. Students were eager to participate and join in on the discussion.

      – There is a clear sense of contextual awareness and understanding of the links and connections between the empirics and theory at work here. At times, however, it strikes me that some of the students were perhaps *too* applied and *too* fixated upon flaunting knowledge, as opposed to wrestling w/ the theory at hand here.

      Cons:

      – I think most in the class would benefit from more attentiveness – spend more time LISTENING, as opposed to INTERRUPTING each other’s contributions

      – Some folks were paying less attention than they should – and thus ended up missing out on the questions being put to them. Please DO listen carefully and ANSWER the questions!!

      – More responsiveness to others’ answers, more in-depth commentary on whether their knowledge is IN FACT RELEVANT AND APPLICABLE to the contexts at hand, would indubitably be welcome.

      SESSION 3

      HOMEWORK

      •Read: https://www.storyboardthat.com/lesson-plans/introduction-to-government
      •Watch:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY7umgfV8gg

      SUMMARY OF WHAT WAS COVERED

      • Introduction to ethics and moral philosophy
      • Trolley problem and the fat man
      • Introduction/overview re: utilitarianism vs. deontology
      • Abortion — overview of core issues
      • Debates/speeches re: being sad Socrates vs. happy pig

      FEEDBACK

      1) Folks needed to STOP GETTING DISTRACTED/distracting others – very important!!! (Please, as cute as one’s cat may be, do not bring the cat to the frame for that would only distract other folks in the class!)

      2) There is an active need on the part of some to participate more avidly and frequently in the conversation. The issue rests fundamentally with an active acknowledgment and response to the questions and prompts raised — much of which do and will necessitate attentiveness to the finer details.

      3) I reckon the personal experiences/insights sharing is fine and all, but it MUST BE TAILORED TO ANSWERING THE QUESTION. Elsewise, it’d be rather difficult to see the RELEVANCE of the contributions made.
