Descriptive writing– In the third lesson, we will look at how to use techniques such as metaphors, similes and senses to create an authentic scene, containing authentic characters. To help with this, we will take some extracts of stories from 11+ papers, such as The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and look at what makes them so vivid and interesting. This lesson will help to expand vocabulary and confidence in creating a compelling setting. We can then start to focus on writing our own descriptive piece of writing, based on a holiday we’ve been on.
