ParticipantI think that it is useful to know that Morpurgo made the he made the choice he made within the book, and it changes the story for me.
First, I think that this book is about friendship and kindness that happens between everyone that takes care of Joey. For example, in chapter one Albert said to his mother “Look at him, mother, he’s wet through the skin. I’ll have to rub him down.” This shows how Albert gave kindness to Joey and with a friendship that was being closer and closer, also it tells us that even they are very different species, but they still can have strong friendship or even better than the others.
Also, I think that this story is about death, and that the author even made the main character’s best friends been dead. For example, in chapter twenty-one when Emilie’s grandfather said to Albert “She was a sick child anyway, but now her new family taken from her, she no longer had anything to live for. She just faded away last year. She was only fifteen years old.” This tells us that not all story has a happy ending like the fairy tales, or the main characters best friends died.
Last, I think that this story is about promise of people who leave and been found again and living happily after. For example, in chapter seventeen when Albert talks to Joey “How devil did you get yourself stuck out there in no man’s land, you old silly? He said. That’s what everyone wants to know ever since the message came back that they’d be bring you here.” It shows that how Albert missed Joey and was very surprised that he’d came back, just like your best friend that you haven’t seen for a long time and then you suddenly meet the person.

ParticipantWar horse is a good story about friendship in WW1. I think it is useful to know why Morpurgo made the choice he made within the book. It changes my thought to the story.
First, a little paragraph changes my opinion about Albert’s dad. In the book, when Albert’s dad sells Joey, he said,“You’ll be all right, old son, you’ll be all right. They’ll look after you, promise they will. And I need the money, Joey, I need the money bad.” This makes a big contrast with him before. Before, Morpurgo write him as a bad dad that like to drink wine. But this time he gave him compassion and he was guilty at Joey. This shows that he have two faces, one is serious, the other is friendly.
Also, the last paragraph changes my thought about Emily’s grandfather. In my impression, he all ways listen to Emily, and tries best to get the thing that Emily wants. Well, it is not a bad mind, because Emily has disease. But when I just think that he will let Joey go to his house and let Joey live happy after, he gives Joey back to Albert. I think he give Joey back to Albert because he knows that Joey won’t be happy in his house because there are no friends with him. Also, he checks that Albert will be good at Joey. This proves that he will also think about Joey, he will think about if Joey go back to his house, he will think about Joey is happy or not. At last, he chooses to give Joey back to Albert. This shows he is a person that will think about what other people (or animals like Joey) think, not only listen to someone he loves.
In conclusion, it changes my mind of Alberts dad and Emily’s grandfather. It shows me that Albert’s dad have two faces, also shows that Emily’s grandfather will think about others. This is why I thought it is useful to know why Morpurgo made the choice he made within the book.

ParticipantI think if War Horse is been told by a human, then the reader will know more clearly about what had happened in the war.
First, if it was told by human it will talk more about what had happened with the people. For example, if the human want to about the wires and the booms it will write more about what that human is thinking, and less about what the horse is thinking and the actions they are doing. And that will let us know more about what had happened more clearly but with less talking with the horse.
Also, we could know more message about how the world war one happened and what they are planning to attack or to defense the enemy. For example, in all the story we will know what was the horse and the people go and what will they want to do. And that will let us know more about what they are going to do, but not just knowing the horses are going to some were and just fight.
But, if the author just wrote about what the human perspective then the name of the book needs to change, or then it will be a title called War house but is all talking about what the human is thinking and just talk about a little bit of horse. Then it will make the reader really confused about this book.

ParticipantI think it will be different if the story War Horse is told in human’s perspective.
First, it would be clearer when the story is narrate by human. It is because human know every thing about war, not like animals like Joey. Human understands why they are fighting and what they are fighting with. If the story is told by human, that person can explain about how the war start and the things they use in the war. Joey can not explain any thing of these. He are like us, does not know any things about the war.
Conversely, it does not mean that War Horse told by human is better than Joey. If the story is told by Joey, Joey will have thought same like readers. For example, readers and Joey will have some question like “why are they fighting” and “what they are fighting for”. Morpurgo use Joey to represent ordinary people in the wars. These people does not know why there are wars and why their life become so hard. If the story is told by Joey, we could feel about the war more deeply.
In conclusion, it is different when the story is told by human. If the story is told by human, the background of the war will be clearer for us. The story will be more interesting if it is told by Joey. Therefore, I think there is no correct perspective.

ParticipantI think War Horse shows the cruel in the war. It show the life of a horse in the war. It also show that there are friendly places in the war, too.
First, I said it shows the cruel in the war because there are many place in the book that describe the war. When the first time Joey go to the war, he describe: “All around me men cried and fell to the ground, and horses reared and screamed in an agony of fear and pain.” and “ The shells whined and roared overhead, and every explosion seemed like and earthquake to us.” From this paragraph, we can see the cruel in the war by these word like “roared overhead” and “reared and screamed in an agony of fear and pain”
War horse also show the life of a horse in the WWI. We can see it from Joey and Topthorn. In the book, we can see that they need to do many work like pulling the guns. But there are more dangerous work. It is to be a war horse. This mean in any time they could dead. Even the horse did not know why they dead and what they dead for. These paragraphs tell us what do the war horse do in the war.
Lastly, I think it also show that there are friendly place in wars, too. I see it by Emily’s home. It is a warm, friendly place. She and her grandfather are friendly to animals. Emily like to play with animals and talk to us. She see the animals as people, and she make good friends with them.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that War Horse show three point about the war. It shows the cruel in the war, the life of a horse in the war, and it also shows that there are friendly place in the war.

ParticipantI think Funke put the quotation because it could inspire the readers. It also could be a prophecy.
First, every quotation is related to the chapter. For example, in chapter 1, the quotation is “The moon shone in the rocking horse’s eye, and in the mouse’s eye, too. when Told fetched it out from under his pillow to see. The clock went tick-tock, and in the stillness, he thought he heard little bare feet running across the floor, then lighter and whispering, and a sound like the pages of a big book being turn over.” The same of the chapter and the quotation is, they all have time at night, have unknown people/creature trying to get in their house, and all have a little bit of horror.
Also, there is not only one example in the book. Another example is in chapter 11. The quotation is “Home! That was what they meant, those caressing appeals, those invisible little hands pulling and tugging, all one way.” The related chapter and the quotation are very easy to see. They are all at home, and they did not want to leave it.
Lastly, the quotation in front of the chapter could also be a kind of prophecy. In paragraph 51, the quotation is “ ‘I don’t know what it is,’ answered Fiver wrentchedly. ‘There isn’t any danger here, at this moment. But it’s com-ing-it’s coming.’” After this chapter, there are dangers happening to Maggie and other people. This proves that the quotation can be some kind of prophecy.
In conclusion, I prove that Funke put some quotation in the front of the chapter can inspire the readers, also could be a prophecy.

ParticipantI deleted some parts that we do not need.
I think Funke uses the quotations because it could be a foreshadowing.
For example, in paragraph 51, the quotation is “ ‘I don’t know what it is,’ answered Fiver wretchedly. ‘There isn’t any danger here, at this moment. But it’s com-ing-it’s coming.’(Richard Adams, Watership Down)” In my opinion, this means that there will be danger or dangerous after this chapter, and at this time, it is the calm time before the storm. So this chapter will be alright, but after this chapter, at the 52 chapter, Maggie first read a fairy out from the book. This make her more dangerous because her power was found by Basta.
In conclusion Funke quotations in the front of the chapter can inspire the readers, also could be a prophecy.

ParticipantThe first people that have a pig heart in the world is David Bennett. He is 57 years old. He lived 2 more months after the surgery. I think it is similar that there family all love them even they have a pig heart. The different is, now the technology is more developed. But at that time, they don’t have the things to remove the germs in the pig heart. So Cameron’s surgery will be more dangerous.

ParticipantI am choosing the character in the book Holes, and he is called Stanley.
In school Stanley is very afraid of a boy called David, he is a small boy but is very sneaky, he likes to steal Stanley’s notebook. Every time he will tell the teacher but the teacher doesn’t care, because the teacher always think that David is so much smaller than Stanley so he thinks that he cannot do that kind of things and in the class time the teacher will also say many things that make Stanley sad. When I walked to school, I just really wanted a friend that can help me and let the bulling stop, then a smaller boy with a sneaky smile appeared in my eyes. It is David again! I hate him he always steals my things and is very naughty. When there is an adult, he will pretend to be very well behaved and in the other hand he makes fun with me with his friends. I really hope that there is someone that can stand on my side and help me! I love having class time, because then David cannot steal my things and I could relax myself too. Every time when I am been bullied, I felt very small even I am much taller and bigger than him. I knew that bad luck is just because my great great grandpa!
