Waking up, I hopped up onto the hill for silflay. Finding Fiver in a different burrow, I took him up the slope to where sow thistle grew. Fiver was just about to take a bite when an Owsla member, Toadflax, yelled at him like an outraged man and told him to back off and find his flayrah. “Rules, rules I’m sick of the boring rules,” I said Fiver. We had a discussion then decided to go underground and have some rest.

We came out of the caves at ni-frith, and Fiver told me that he had dreamed about the warren being annihilated by men. I asked him his opinion about what we should do, and his response was to get the Threarah and tell him to evacuate the whole warren or as many rabbits as possible. He asked us how he would be able to evacuate an entire warren at ni-frith. Hearing thunder overhead, we stayed inside for about a minute. We got out of his burrow and started asking as many people as possible to leave the warren with us. We met under the crossing the next day, a sizeable amount of rabbits with us. After a few minutes, Captain Holly of the Owsla and a few other Owsla members tried to arrest us, and that was when Thlayli came and saved us.

# Cynthia

Captain Holly and Owsla chased after the colony of rabbits that escaped from the warren. The rabbits broke out of the warren and scurried until they were out of breath, but they knew they had to keep on running as fast and far as they could. No one would like to be caught and brought back. They ran through the big bushes, went through the gloomy and damp woods. After clambering up the green and steep slope, they reached the long distanced fence with thorn bushes and thick wired meshes. Fiver attempted to jump over it but failed, landing on the ground with a thud, as he could not do it. Hazel sent Blackberry and Blueberry to go to each side of the fence to check if they can go the other way around, but they came back after ten minutes and found the wall seems as infinitely long as space. Fiver found a teeny tiny hole on the fence that only small rabbits could squeeze through.

“We should try and squeeze through the hole. It is the fastest and easiest way to carry on our journey.” Fiver said.

“No, the hole is too tiny to pass through. We must get injured if we do that way. We should go back cross the road and climb up the hill.” Lavender opposed.

“No, it is too risky. Captain Holly and Owsla are chasing after us, and we could get arrested if we are turning back. We should squeeze through the hole. ” Fiver insisted.

Some rabbits supported Fiver, while others decided to follow Lavender. There was a quarrel in the rabbits.

“Listen, everyone! ” Hazel tried to conciliate the quarrel, “Captain Holly and Owsla are after us; there is a big chance we could be arrested. Furthermore, we could get injured when crossing the road by a human. So we should be intrepid and follow Fiver’s suggestion.”

Some rabbits were brave enough to go through the gap. They were covered with wounds and blood when they passed. They licked each other clean and hugged each other. They were thrilled. However, Lavender led some rabbits who did not want to cross the road through the tiny hole. Unfortunately, they were captured by captain Holy and Owsla when they tried to climb the hill.

Fiver suggested that they come and help the rabbits captured, but Cowslip and Hazel refuse to help. “They were against us! Why should we help our nemesis?’’

“Because they were in our Warren, you stupid oaf! Do you remember the pact we swore on? We swore to protect any rabbit that was in our Warren or our scavenger lands!”

“Oh yeah, sorry, Fiver, we shouldn’t follow their examples,’’ muttered Hazel sarcastically.

But for once, the entire gang was in Fiver’s favour. They planned for the rescue (Hazel very unwillingly). Once the catchers had caught their bounty, they would bring it back to the Threarah, who would question them for information that would allow them to find more food. The remarkable rescue would have to be stealthy, swift and disguised.

#Haoming

I slept very badly. I had a vision – Fiver being shot and somersaulting through the air, a red hrududu, a pfeffa and thick ropes springing out from nowhere. Waking up, I found Cowslip in front of me. “Are you OK?” he asked. “Yes, I’m fine,” I lied. He seemed to be staring at me as if I carried the white blindness. Only when it was too late, I realised that I was trembling and sweating uncontrollably. He now knew that I did not tell the truth. The rescue started at ni-frith. Lavender, Dewdrop and twelve more were saved along with eighteen bucks, but some were not that lucky.

It was a long day. Every rabbit was exhausted that they fell asleep rapidly and deeply. However, Fiver couldn’t sleep at all. He kept fidgeting over and over again and recalled what happened today.

Before they set off to rescue the rabbits, they made one plan and a backup plan. They were split into two teams. Hazel would lead one group to save the arrested rabbits, while Fiver would take the other team to stand by if Hazel’s plan failed. Hazel knew that milk thistle would not harm rabbits but made them sleep for a while after consumption. So he sent Blackberry and Blueberry to hurry to the woods to search for milk thistles and take them back. He Found a bucket on the floor and asked Mulberry to fill it up with water from the lake. Hazel pinched up a stick randomly and began crushing the fresh milk thistle brought back by Blueberry and Blackberry harshly, mixed up it with water and stirred until it dissolved thoroughly. Hazel created body signs with Fiver to avoid talking in the rescue action. In Ni-Frith, they set off.

Hazel and Mulberry disguised as guards and approached Captain Holly. They kept their chin as low as they could so that Captain Holly could not recognise them. “You are so tired, Captain Holly! ” said Mulberry in a shrill voice,” Why not have a drink?”

Captain Holly took a sip and went fast asleep.

Hazel took the key from Captain Holly’s pocket, sneaked straight to the jail cell where the rabbits were kept and released all the rabbits. Even some other rabbits determined to go with Hazel. They fleeted away successfully.

After Hazel and his band of rabbits fleeted from the burrow, they searched for a new warren. The rabbits dug furiously, who only slightly stopped taking orders from Hazel, the organiser and supervisor. By the way, Hazel was a different person now. From an atrocious and belligerent bully, he transformed into a caring, compassionate and organised rabbit.

Hazel counted and bent his fingers – there had to be a separate bedroom for each rabbit (20 in total), a living room, a dining room and storage for all. But was it the right spot? The ground was suitable for digging and burrowing, but it was limited and squeezed and squashed for the clan. However, the land was fertile, and it was great for growing plants. Hooray, we’ve found our allotment!

Hazel declared that this would be the planting field, but he decided they had to carry on their quest to acquire a new warren.

Limping, the whole troop entered a dry and barren valley with the unfamiliar scent of a predator. They had accidentally trespassed the land of the wolves.

As if they had appeared out of thin air, a tight circle of wolves surrounded the unfortunate warren. The wolves bared their teeth.

That was an easy lunch!” exclaimed the pack of wolves.

Enough to feed us for a month, without hunting and eating as kings every day!”

Hazel and Fiver courageously stepped forward and announced, “If you can catch us first!”

With no further thought, they hopped over the wall of wolves and began running for their lives, for their lives were at stake!

Being on a seemingly endless journey did not seem at all worthwhile. I had run across a clearing to find a lendri some way around the corner and came back to find Bigwig having fended off a homba immediately. They cautiously but exhaustedly collapsed on the floor of an abandoned church to wake up and find a reckoning of Corvil. Dandelion distracted them, and Bigwig killed one that was about to jab his eyes out. After ten weary days of slowly plodding on, they reached the peak of a hill that was quite steep and found a rabbit called Cowslip.

Cowslip invited us to his warren. At first, I thought we had a choice, but as I heard growling thunder and the crackling of lightning plus saw ominous black clouds moving our was as swiftly as a hrududu, I figured that we only had one option because digging scrapes now would be too late. We went inside to find a rabbit called Strawberry. She was a doe and was about to give them a tour of the warren. Things did not improve when I noticed guards with their backs to the walls. Strawberry pulled a thorn out of his paw and started rapidly explaining. “—And this is a shape. We use it for rituals to the lord Frith. It’s sacred and very delicate, so please don’t touch it with your paw.” I caught. Those words sharpened my thoughts because no rabbit thinks of praying to Frith.

I slept with Strawberry at ni-frith and woke up in the morning to find him chanting “Flayrah, flayrah.”

“Flayrah? It’s too early to be raiding gardens! Fiver remarked. It was true, and I hesitated before going over to a tree and watch the others. Strawberry instructed them to carry some orange food in their mouths and bring them back to the warren, like dogs fetching sticks. First, they tasted it, and I watched Blackberry say, “Horrible, I mean, great, I mean, terrible, I mean—” and repeating the words all over again.

They all seemed to love it, and all I got from them as they carried the things over was “carrots are great” as they carried the ‘carrots’ back to the warren. I sat under the tree with Fiver and nibbled at the grass, grazing out way out and taking no notice of the others whatsoever. We told them that they were making themselves into open targets for elil as they carried the carrots but said to us that a man shot them and that they had seen that themselves. I went to see for myself and found a snare set in the grass.

#Cynthia

Bigwig was indulgent of listening to the music in the warm warren. Suddenly, he heard someone was calling help that came from outside of the warren. Bigwig hurried out to check where something produced the voice. He spotted a rabbit caught in a rusty metal snare. He scampered anxiously to the trap, and shockingly, he found that it was Strawberry. Strawberry was in the loop, she was choking, coughing, bleeding, and her body was stuck in the wire mesh.

” Oh, no, Strawberry, ar…ar…are  you still all right?” stammered Bigwig, ” Don’t worry, Strawberry, Let me he…he…help you !”

He dug around the snare, but the wire meshed and tried to pull Strawberry out.

“Ouch!” cried Strawberry.

Bigwig withdrew his paw immediately. He realised that he couldn’t save Strawberry on his own. Instead, Bigwig might hurt her badly if carried on. He determined to call for backup.

” Strawberry, stay calm; you will be fine. ” encouraged Bigwig, ” I am going back and get help.”

Meanwhile, He heard a dog growling far away. Bigwig hurried back to the warren and screamed, ” Strawberry is trapped in the snare, and a dog is snarling and coming toward it. The hunter will be here shortly. ”

Everyone whizzed out. All the rabbits from Sandleford saw the dog, an elil to rabbit, was getting closer and closer. Fiver picked up a stick decisively and threw it in the other direction to distract the dog. Fiver started to hop to lead the dog away.

“Let’s dig the snare out!” Hazel shouted.

Hazel and Bigwig worked together to dig out the ground to unearth the snare and the earth. Cowslip, Blueberry and Blackberry bit the mesh constantly to set strawberry free.

“Hurry up; I can’t hold the dog any longer. It is catching me up soon. Run back to the warren before the hunter arrived!” screeched Fiver.

They carried Strawberry, who had lost consciousness, back and licked her clean. Fiver finally escaped from the dog and got back the warren safely. After a few hours, Strawberry was gradually awake. She thanked everyone who saved her intrepidly.

Hazel decided that everyone need to stay and have a rest before they head off. To prevent the rabbits from trapping in the snare again, they decided to raid the hill, find out the surprise and mark them. No rabbits were allowed to get close to the area that Bigwig observed.

#Hei

Hazel, the other rabbits, and I were so frightened of the dog that every time we spotted a tint of brown fur, a shower of cold sweat flew off our spine and our heart rate tripled! The animal so stressed our brain; it felt like it was going to explode with worries.

But since the snare problem was gone, we didn’t have to be that cautious. However, the wolves were still a huge problem. As Mulberry, Raspberry, and blackberry went out, a pack of wolves tracked them, and a ring of wolves was ready. Mulberry and Raspberry prepared to jump, but Blackberry, who was the cleverest of the small group, explained that the wolves had positioned them in a way that there was more than one ring so that they couldn’t jump over. We had to save them.

Less than a nanosecond later, a bombard of dandelion milk showered the crowd, temporarily blinding the wolves, and the rabbits barged their way through and fled to the warren.

#Haoming

I found Bigwig a few days later in the snare at Frith down. He was gasping and desperately scratching at the soil. By the looks of it, he was going to choke if I did not free him. Giving Hrairoo the instructions: alert the others and tell me about anything they do to delay your progression; I questioned Bigwig about what to do. He gave me three words: dig and bite. Searching furiously, I scanned the area for the farmer that set the trap. Finding no man, I resumed the digging that seemed eternal.

(Fiver’s point of view) Hurrying down the hole, I screamed at the others, “Bigwig is in a snare! Come NOW!” We found the way blocked by Cowslip and two guards. “Now, now. Frith has decided that it is Bigwig’s turn,” he said. “What do you mean, it’s HIS turn?” yelled Bluebell. “A day less for one means a day more for us all,” Cowslip ‘explained’. It was never necessary to fight, but that was what Dandelion did. He bit Cowslip and barrelled into one of the guards while the rest of us fleed from the warren.

# Cynthia

Fiver found Hazel digging a hole furiously and desperately, and he decided to help. Hazel tried biting the snare, but his head did not fit in the space.

“Let me try!” said Fiver.

He carefully put his head into the snare from the bottom of the trap and managed to bite the stick apart. Bigwig was free. He was taken back to the warren by Hazel and Fiver. Meanwhile, they tried to get away from Cowslip, who didn’t intend to rescue Bigwig. To solidify the warren, Hazel suggested that there should be a leader in the warren. He decided to hold a referendum in the warren to have the honourable leader. So. They set up the polling station in the hall of the warren. Hazel and Cowslip prepared their speech intensely and practised with great efforts for the presentation the following day.

Cowslip insisted that rabbits need to follow Frith’s idea and be obedient to Frith fully. However, Hazel believed in making choices freely. “People should give every rabbit their right to make a choice, and Everyone should respect every rabbits ‘ rights. Life is a dominant issue in the warren. “Hazel claimed.

The rabbits had a few days to think about it, and they put the name on the paper, handing back to the polling station. Fiver counted the votes, and finally, Hazel won and became the leader of the warren.

Hazel promised they would build their garden full of vegetables so they would no longer have to raid the garden with significant risks of trapping in the snare. Furthermore, Hazel changes the warren rule to make all the rabbits choose to believe in Frith.  Lastly, Hazel made his mind to expand their Owsla to prevent the warren from being attacked.  Of course, Fiver was appointed as the head of the Owsla, and bucks were trained rigorously by Fiver and Hazel.   However, Cowslip determined to leave the warren as he thought the warren didn’t suit him anymore.

# Hei

Cowslip’s warren was much more organised. All the rooms were immaculate. We wished to have that as our permanent home.

But unfortunately, he was not elected as head because Hazel was a wiser leader than him, and he had since then formed a grudge against us. Sadly, our original warren members and I were banished from his home for eternity without his support.

The trouble lay ahead. My legs were stiffening, my nose twitching and my ears pricking up higher than usual; I could smell the lurking DANGER.

“Hazel, I sense the woodland has danger in it!” I cried with a panicky voice, 5 octaves higher than usual.

“Hmmm, well, let us change the route then!” exclaimed him cautiously.

The whole troop swerved and headed for the vast plains, well, almost the entire battalion. Many rabbits knew that I could foresee the future, and Holly, who was hanging on to our every word, was no longer rebellious and helped in any way she could.

However, another small band of rabbits (Draus, Sky and Bean) begged to differ. They shouted out loud and fiercely. They pulled out radishes in anger; their faces were a giant plum. The band argued that the way to the plain was much longer and would take far more time. The others argued that their lives were more precious than a bit of a hard time on the road.

After an hour-long council meeting and endless persuasion, it still set coax and hoax, the trio’s minds on the dense forest. So we split. Although we did not want to, we had to.

#Haoming

(Hazel) Pausing, I heard the sound of a large party of rabbits coming. Looking up, I resumed the digging and saw all of us coming. “Where are Cowslip and the others?” No one dared to utter a single breath. Finally, Dandelion said, “He tried to stop us, and I had to bite him.” Immediately, all started digging. The peg was a lot thinner down there. As the most diminutive, Fiver went down and started biting the peg, Bigwig straining harder each time. Finally, the peg was out, and Bigwig flew into the air and landed on the sand. Fiver nudged him, but no response came. He came over, announcing that he could not feel Thlayli’s heartbeat.

#Cynthia

Everyone knew Bigwig was dead and felt melancholic. Hazel and all the rabbits made a funeral for Bigwig. They put Bigwig carefully in a coffin made of sticks and straws and buried him in the soil.

After Bigwig’s death, Bigwig realised that there were too many snares around the warren, so he had no choice but to abandon the warren and went to Watership Down where they can have a safe and peaceful life. Hazel made a speech in front of all the rabbits in the warren with two specially trained bucks, Hazel’s guards, standing beside him during the lecture. Some rabbits disagreed with Hazel. They thought it was too dangerous, and on the way to Watership Down,  they could get shot by a human when they scrambled through the farm, bitten to pieces by dogs, running through the woods, hit by a car while crossing the road and starved to die when they couldn’t find any food.

Hazel held another referendum to conciliate the quarrel within the rabbits, a big vote to decide Leave or Stay. After the vote, Leave won. Hazel and Fiver checked the map through the night to find the most accessible and safest route to go to Watership Down.  Meanwhile, Hazel sent Blackberry, Blueberry and Cranberry to fetch some vegetable and pack in the bucket until it was packed in case there would be a time that they could not find anything to eat. They told all the rabbits to pack their belongings and line up. Fiver counted a few times so no one could get left behind. Everyone was there. They set off.

(Hazel)

But the map was not a precise one – we made sure it was correct before others used it. What pointed to the plains was the forest and vice versa. Fiver and I were compelled to decide to turn back to the way we came.

After many gruelling days and an uncomfortable night’s out in the open with our hearts beating so loud, the entire warren members could not acquire one wink of sleep, and we made it to the hole. Fiver predicted that the humans had completely taken over and had turned it into a hotel. He could sense another wing with the odour of roasted hare, the Thearah and the previous Owsla.

Then, I had an idea; I knew how to enter it without being seen – a secret passageway, made by me if this series of unfortunate events ever happened. We squeezed through the covert way, and in front of us were the corpses of the Thearah and the previous Owsla’s bones!

We trudged further and came face to face with the sea! But it wasn’t a sea, and then all of us realised the horrible truth – Hunters and humans!

A few days later, I found myself in bed. Fiver’s ears drooped and signs filled with his face. I asked, “ What the hell?”

Fiver replied, without even lifting his eyebrows, “ Those humans! They are heartless! They don’t know that we have feelings, and we have family that weeps for us!” ranted Fiver in despair.

(Hazel)

The words: ‘my heart has joined the thousand, for my friend stopped running today.’ were said, our heads bowed, weeping at the loss of one brave soul until the leg twitched slightly, and the eyelids fluttered open. “I’ll KILL him, that Cowslip. That’s what I’ll do. I’ll KILL him.” he said. Everyone else agreed, and I was about to object when a piercing voice shook the air and sent vibrations flying in all directions. “KILL THEM? ARE YOU CRAZY? The warren’s a TOMB; that’s what it is. It’s snared everywhere, every day. Dandelion, you like stories, don’t you? Then listen to this story, and think more clearly. There was a warren that suffered from white blindness. A few survived, as always, but they began their ways and forgot about El-ahrairah completely. They did not have a leader because they always agreed on one thing, and they shared their ideas of protection, using one at a time and discarding the useless ones with disdain. A farmer started snaring s few of them in different places. they carried on with their lives, pretending nothing was bothering them.”

#Cynthia

“What is white blindness?” asked Dandelion curiously.

“It is a type of disease that Frith created. ” one of the rabbits in Cowslip warren replied, ” The rabbits that caught white blindness would be deteriorated day by day and die very fast. ”

“White blindness used to spread in our warren. Many rabbits caught it and became ill. It was a calamity. Cowslip forced us to leave the warren and abandoned our family and relatives who caught blindness and ill. However, many rabbits resisted leaving our family and stayed to look after them. Some Owsla were talented and made great efforts to discover the antidote and vaccine to save our warren. Those ill rabbits were asked kindly for blood samples to make further investigation. Finally, the antidote and vaccine were all made up. Some brave rabbits volunteered to get the vaccine, and some tried the antidote. Rabbits that had the vaccine was told to have rest and drink plenty of water. After 12 weeks, they were offered another job. The Owsla used their blood sample to check whether we produced enough antibodies in the immune system.  Luckily the results came back positive, and the rabbits who got jab were protected efficiently. Therefore, all the rabbits in the warren have given the vaccine . ” rabbits resumed with eyes full of tears.

#Hei

The miracle of the vaccine was a gift from God, but the luck didn’t last like money never does.

Soon enough, another stupid disease was sent up to us – from the depths of hell. Covid-17, the most robust virus ever; it made covid 19 seem like a slap on the wrist.

Many of our bravest members, the berry family, the fruit family, and even my dear brother, fell ill! All the invalid animals did was sleep, trying and endeavouring to regain their strength. They recovered because we discovered a cure before the bird-brained humans could.

Bunny ear grass. It leaked the virus out, what humans call antibiotics.

As quick as a newly shot bolt of lightning, they healed, and soon, they were all hoping all about, and hated the virus – we passed it on to humans, and they were suffering as much as Kronos in Tartarus (if you’ve read the Percy Jackson series).

“Now, we hate humans, yes we loathe; we detest them.” I announced to the hares, and then I added, “But we don’t want them dead, do we?” I questioned my brood.

And without a word, we carried the medicine to a sick child (namely me), and he ate it.  And he got up and stroked a rabbit – Blanoodleberry, and it forged a bond between the two groups of animals. The humans let us live there and enjoy the pleasures, but it came at a price – being stroked.

#Haoming

“And then we came along – rabbits from across the valley. They let us come here, and they made up their mind to let us get snared!” Fiver was in a fit of hysterics and making such a din that the noise echoed around the valley.

#Cynthia

Fortunately, Fiver sensed there would be great snares near the warren, and many do and bucks getting trapped. Fiver told Hazel about it, and Hazel decided to leave the warren and must take action immediately. They set off and head to Watership down. The whole warren kept scampering, over the hill, until they were exhausted.  An abandoned cottage became their temporary warren. They were starving, and they had no choice but to raid a farm. There was a farm nearby, called Rose farm. They decided to give it a go.

Hazel sent Raspberry and Blueberry to check the surrounding of the farm to make a risk assessment before they jump into action. Raspberry and Blueberry arrive at the farm and find a long fence built along with the farm, which is too tall to look over into the farm. Raspberry asked Blueberry to clamber on her shoulder to see what was inside the farm. Blueberry climbed on and saw the carrots patches, lettuce patches and many radishes full of the farm. He was drooling.  After checking the farm, they scurried back and told Hazel what they found. A big fat furry brown dog was lying by the main gate. There were six cameras installed around the farm, two by the main entrance, two by the rear gate, two on each side of the farm. Hazel planned to grind the milk thistle, fill it into the capsules and pour it into the dog water to sedate it.

They applied tree sap to the leaves to cover the security camera. The dog has slept, and the cameras were sorted out. The rabbits were ready to go. They crept under the gate into the farm and started to pick the lettuce, carrots and radishes.  Suddenly, a black cat appeared and rushed toward the rabbits that stacked all the vegetables into a cart. All the rabbits scampered away at once; however, Blueberry attempted to grab two more radishes. The cat was pouncing at her. Luckily, Blueberry escaped. All the rabbits run into the cottage on the farm and hide under a wooden table, holding their breath that they were found and dragged out by the black cat. Hazel decided to lure the cat. He pointed the cart that filled with vegetables to the rabbits and looked at the door. Hazel made noises to draw the cat out of the cottage. The cat got out of the house, and all rabbits pushed the cart and ran out of the farm.

The sun was like a giant poached egg setting down in the sky, the beginning of another adventurous day. They had a good meal and fell into a sweet sleep.

#Hei

When we woke up, however, The farmer was standing over us. But as lucky as we were, he was not wearing an unkind expression. Well, he had, but after he saw the ribs of blueberry, he laughed. “Hungry little fellows, you are, aren’t you?”

Of course, we were hungry. Does the man think we were stupid? Well, we were petrified when we glimpsed the shotguns that shot approximately 100 bullets per trigger. He let us eat some radishes, but then we fled away from the cottage to ensure we were safe. I knew that we were not safe with humans but, we were exchanging one danger for another – foxes. We came to a mound with a hole in it, and my brother recognised it as a fox hole.

“ Oh no!” We cried as a squad of fennec foxes emerged with ease, looking very hungry and very pleased. We were helpless. And about to be rabbit stew.

But then, a tiger materialised instantly, and I recognised him as my fierce friend Aslan(whom I had saved when he got caught in the net), and with an ingenious swipe of his paw, the fennecs were scattered like raindrops. Then, with his penetrating, golden eyes, he announced with the aura of a king, “ Go, there will be more!”

We ran as fast as a newly unleashed bolt of red lightning – and we ran straight into a swamp! And if that wasn’t bad enough, hunters were gathering for our black hide, and they had all kinds of hunting weapons: Bazookas, shotguns, rifles, slingshots and any sort of bizarre hunting.

Weapon. But our generous friend, the tiger named Aslan, again showed up and one glimpse at him and they all sped off in their Tesla’s.

  #Haoming

As the most conscientious of us, Blackberry sculpted clay models of ourselves sleeping with deft but shaking fingers, and we crept away from the abhorrent warren where Cowslip lived. “He did say some abrasive words,” commented Bluebell. Afterwards, Dandelion expressed the idea of Cowslip abdicating with no others taking the role of chief rabbit. It was not likely, and we found a cottage. We were just about to pile into the cellar when the flamboyant farmer saw us. Quick as a wink, he pulled out a shotgun, but by the time it was loaded, we were gone. We passed a farm, and I caught a glimpse of a doe behind a wire net. The mouth of the cottage door opened, and out came the farmer who wore garish, ghastly garments. Luckily, we were under the protection of the woods, and we were not seen. Bluebell was a bit frivolous, spitting jokes as we came and raising our spirits.

#Cynthia

Hazel winked at Blueberry at once and made a gesture of zipping his mouth shut. Blueberry was so embarrassed that he couldn’t make any responses but left his mouth open like a infinite black hole. Hazel took a step closer with cautions of being spotted by the farmer. He gazed and noticed there was a two-storey wooden hutch beside the cottage. Hazel decided to go closer to see how many rabbits were there. He tiptoed and leaped towards the hutch as fast as a bullet shot out from a gun.

There were abundant of rabbits stuffed inside the hutch and there was even no space for them to turn around. Some rabbits were injured with obvious scratches on their bodies.

“Oh ,poor rabbits!” sighed Hazel. The rabbits stared at Hazel and begged him to hep them escape from the crammed hutch, the nasty hell.

Hazel was so miserable to see them suffering and determined to save them. He scratched the hutch door in order to open the cage. Unfortunately, the scratching noise alerted the farmer ,who was just about to leave the farm, The farmer turned around cautiously and spotted Hazel trying to open the cage. He was pissed off and nagged loudly ,” You , the pesky little nut. I will get you and lock you in the hutch. Tonight , I will have roast rabbit as my dinner!”Hazel ran and ran with full power like a arrow released from the bow. However, the farmer was chasing behind him around the farm through the pebbled lane.

Providentially, Hazel managed to get away through a cat flap fitted in the fence. The farmer was furious and stamped his feet heavily on the ground, with dusts spiraling in the air.  “One day, I will catch you pesky nut. You’d better not let me see you again.!” the farmer screamed aggressively.

#Hei

We were safe from the farmer for a while, but he would return, and there were still the rabbits to save. Fiver and I discussed and we would do it in the dark when the farmer was surely disgustingly snoring. A trio of rabbits would make sure it was safe. Then, they would use a torch that the farmer always had on his bedside table – our bucks were superb at spying and found every detail of his life. They would shine the torch, alerting the saving team. A third group would make sure everything was right. All 100 of us were ready and prepared for the worst.

The shining team alerted the saving team, but we had rotten luck. He got up to go to the toilet. They switched off the torch just in time, but he reached it to light his way. The berries’ pounced like a puma under the bed, and the farmer slowly ambled to do his business. We started scratching right away, and with 50% of our crew scratching, it only took a few seconds to open the cage. They were FREE!

They joined our warren and we now had 1000 members! We ran as fast as our legs could carry us, for the farmer was perilous. After a km or two, we finally fell into the gentle embrace of sleep.

#Cynthia

The farm owner, Mr MoGregg, was fuming when he watched the rabbits disappearing in the dusty air. “No….”, he muttered, a sweet revenge plan was whirring in his head.

He knew there was no farm near here, and no food could be resourced by these little pesky nuts. He just waited for them to come into his sweet snare–the tasty juicy farm.

As he predicted, yes, Hazel and the warren could not find anything to eat for a few days already, and had to choice but to return back to the farm to keep his warren well fed and strong. In the morning, Hazel and Fiver set off.

In the farm, there were tons of patches of lovely vegetable, vines of bursting ripe tomato begging to be picked, fresh green sprouting cabbages nodding their head as Fiver dropping. Sparrows were serenading on the top of the peas’ brambles. Fiver and Hazel could not move at all, and determined to raid the farm one more time.

They gathered the all the warren and get ready to give a final raid.  Those rabbits were starving ,  they could not wait and shoot into the farm , started their “takeaway journey”. They stood in a long line. Hazel pulled out the cabbages and passed to Fiver and kept passing to the other rabbits all the way to the warren. They were so eager to have those lovely food and forgot the dangers that was coming to them.

Mr MoGregg, smirking by the side of the farm, strolled quietly to the patch and released the net that was set up already. “whoosh”, many rabbits was caught in the net, most of them were hutch rabbits. The net were tightened, rabbits there were ch0king and some of them were biting the wire trying to escape. Gouts, one of the hutch rabbit staring at them until they died. He hated , and regret to join Hazel’s warren and became one of his stupid slaves.  He thought Hazel was too soft to protect the warren, instead he believed that rabbits should be aggressive and have fighting spirits to eliminate the hurts. Gouts  bit his lips hardly and hold his fists firmly. He had to fight.

Firm in his mind, Gout endeavoured to fight. He used his teeth, his fists, his floppy ears and even his heart’s determination to break through the net, none of which unfortunately would work. But that didn’t make sense, as normally his bite would be strong enough to break nylon…

Meanwhile, Farmer MoGregg was thinking slyly about how clever he was with a malicious smirk on his face. The net, made of super nylon with instant-stick blobs, was purchased on Amazon not long ago. Afterwards he thought “How should I eat them? Ah, yes, roast them on a spit over a slow fire, like the old times with mango chutney, my own produce of course. The rest, probably a nice rabbit stew! Scrumptious!”

And with a smack of his lips, he meandered inside, humming to himself to prepare everything for his gala banquet . What he didn’t spot in his disgusting daydreaming was that Fiver, Hazel and Gout were repeatedly biting on the same string. With a Snap and a grunt of perspiration from Gout, a string broke.  Again and again they did that, on several strings and the net broke silently into a hole that is right about to let them go! The poor creatures jumped out in glee.

…. A stampede of rabbits came charging out of Rose farm, and instead of farmer MoGregg having a gala feast, they did – eating to their maximum and stuffing themselves with juicy cabbages and ripe tomatoes. That chaos left the farm in absolute destruction and Mo Gregg in a terrible mood.

But the rabbits had just exchanged a danger for another – thirst. Hazel had just entered a desert, with enough cactus spines to eat, but the bucks couldn’t take off the watery chunks of cactus flesh for the Warren members to consume for water.  and the rabbits were fainting in the heat. Everyone could see a glimpse of an oasis, and they wanted to drink there. However, Hazel thought it was too far to hop but Fiver disagreed.

“We are nearly dead, and this could save us. A chance of life and certain death ,we should definitely choose a chance to live!”

For once, the vote was unanimous, and the rabbits, filled with new hope, began hopping furiously to their target.

They came back to the farm and raided it. They freed four does and escaped before the farmer could shoot them. Hazel came back and found that the farmer had a strange device that had weird black buttons that the farmer pressed to make things appear on the screen like  ‘ print (“Good morning”) ‘ or ‘ print (“I’ve got a Swiss Army Knife, David”)\n print (“This is fun”) .’ Hazel didn’t know what that meant but he asked Fiver of what he thought of it. He said that they should go on and dig a warren. With the extra help of the does, the warren was soon made.

Hazel sent Blackberry, Bluebell and Dandelion to a nearby warren that Fiver had located. They returned with ample does; it turned out that the warren was overcrowded and were easily convinced to let go of some does. Everyone could mate, and they were happy.

Fiver suggested that they come and help the rabbits that were captured, but Cowslip and Hazel refuse to help. “They were against us! Why should we help our nemesis?’’

“Because they were in our Warren, you stupid oaf! Do you remember the pact we swore on? We swore to protect any rabbit that was in our Warren, or in our scavenger lands!”

“Oh yeah, sorry Fiver, we shouldn’t follow their examples.’’ muttered Hazel sarcastically.

But for once, the entire gang was in Fiver’s favour. They planned for the rescue (Hazel very unwillingly). Once the catchers had caught their bounty, they would bring it back to the Threarah, who would question them for information that would allow them to find more food, as it was autumn, what the rabbits call autumnssol. The great rescue would have to be stealthy, swift and disguised…
